Virgil Pizer Discusses the Rising Challenges of Aged Engine Maintenance with AviTrader
This January, Pem-Air was spotlighted in the AviTrader article “Ageing Aircraft Cost Management.” Pem-Air CEO Virgil Pizer discusses “how an ageing aircraft can see considerable changes in the way maintenance is planned and carried out.”
Pizer sees a wide array of factors which can affect any maintenance strategy. He states, “Maintenance cost management stops being a purely technical issue and becomes a strategic one the moment engine behaviour starts influencing decisions outside the maintenance department. With ageing engines like the CFM56, V2500, CF6, PW4000, PW2000, CF34, or #Trent700, #Trent800, this shift usually happens when shop‑visit costs become unpredictable and the financial exposure of a single event can swing several million dollars. At that point, planning isn’t just about workscopes anymore — it’s about protecting cash flow, managing risk, and stabilising the operation.
