Effective Engine LLP Management – So Much More Than Timing?
Life-limited parts (LLPs) play a critical role in engine maintenance, but their impact goes far beyond simply scheduling shop visits. As highlighted in AviTrader's MRO 360 feature, effective LLP management is increasingly a strategic function that influences cost control, asset value, and operational stability.
A key insight from Pem-Air CEO Virgil D. Pizer is that LLP planning directly affects financial exposure, particularly for aging engines, where margins for error are smaller, and the cost of a misstep can be high. Careful evaluation, monitoring, and alignment with maintenance strategy are critical to avoid premature removals or costly disruptions.
“LLP planning is key for operators in two respects: stub life optimisation, that is to say making the most of the LLP life in an engine, to avoid wasted value; and determining the correct mix of new (or part-life) LLPs being incorporated during overhaul, in order to meet the operator's specific operational needs while minimising MRO spend."
